Eiko Emori
Eiko Emori was born in Japan. She was educated in art in Japan, England and France before receiving Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University in the U.S.A.
She moved to Canada after getting married and worked as a graphic designer, chiefly in Ottawa. There will be a book published by Bloomsbury Visual Arts in the U.K. under the title, ”Women Graphic Designers of the World”. Eiko’s biography and her work are included in the book as the designer representing Canada.
In the early 1990s, Eiko started learning pâte de verre glass making at the Sanko glass factory in Tokyo, Japan. She established a glass studio, Designer Glass Studio, in Ottawa in 2007, and now devotes herself in glass making.
Eiko has received grants from the Ontario Arts Council, Arts Network Ottawa and City of Ottawa. She has received an Architectural Glass Award from Crafts Ontario.
She is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, and a fellow of the Design Professionals of Canada. Of the local artists organizations, she is a cooperative member of the Foyer Gallery Artists Association, member of National Capital Network of Sculptors, Arteast Ottawa and West Carleton Arts Society. She participates regularly in the shows and exhibitions of these groups and others.
