Katayoun Malekmotiee

My name is Katayoun Malekmotiee (Kathy) a professional Iranian musician who plays Santoor (a Persian traditional instrument). I have more than 40 years of experience in playing, teaching and working with music bands.   

I started learning music when I was 8 years old. Since then, I pursued my degree in Music. I have taught at university, and various music schools and I have run my own music school for 15 years. I have collaborated with various groups as a musician and composer. I have been fortunate enough to play a lot of concerts in my homeland, Iran and abroad. Since emigrating to Canada in 2010,  I have performed in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal with a band and solo.

Music has brought me to teaching about Iranian music at the University of Ottawa and I currently host a radio show about Persian music history every Sunday on CHIN Radio.
